Golden Era WWE: Best and Worst PLE/PPV Main Events

Worst: SummerSlam 1989: Hulk Hogan & Brutus Beefcake vs Randy Savage & Zeus

We are deep into WWE pushing Hulk Hogan over every once else territory in 1989. Fresh off “the success” of No Holds Barred, WWE decided to put actor Tiny Lister in a match with 3 professional wrestlers. What followed was a match that wouldn’t have been fun on the house show circuit.

One has to feel for Randy Savage here, as he was the only great wrestler of the bunch. Even he couldn’t save the plodding tag team match that we saw here. Nothing about the action was exciting, and it didn’t carry the big-match feel that it should have. “Zeus” looked awful and had no business being in the match. This was a match that didn’t work, which was created to promote a movie no one liked.
