Golden Era WWE: Best and Worst PLE/PPV Main Events

Best: Royal Rumble 1992: Royal Rumble Match

The Royal Rumble match has a long history in WWE, but it is very rarely mentioned in the same breath as other great main events. A 30-man match is difficult to book and keep entertaining for the full hour, but when it works, boy, does it work. Take, for example, the 1992 Royal Rumble.

The WWE Championship being on the line was a huge selling point for the match, but it was the booking that made it great. From start to finish, some great stories were being told. Ric Flair’s hour-long battle was a great story. The fact that so many future Hall of Famers competed in this match added another layer of awesomeness. Then there was the crowd turning on Hulk Hogan as he was eliminated, which capped off the night. There were so many perfectly executed moving parts to this match that one has to stand up and applaud.

About Daniel Sinasac

Dan has been a fan of wrestling since his grandmother sat him down to watch JYD and Sgt. Slaughter go to battle. That began a decades-long obsession with professional wrestling. An obsession that has developed into a love/hate relationship with the greatest entertainment medium in the world.
