Optimism Surrounding Varane
Starting with Varane, Ornstein stated that Varane wants to join Manchester United and Real Madrid are open to selling the defender this summer. The news of the potential ‘cash-in’ comes as no surprise when considering that the Frenchman could leave on a free next summer.
United are yet to make their offer, but it is believed that the closer we get to the end of the window, the more likely Madrid are to accept at bid of around £40-45 million. If those at Old Trafford can secure a deal for that price, it will go down as the bargain of the summer.
Varane has won the Champions League on four occasions; the World Cup on the one occasion and the Club World Cup a further four times. The list could go on and on, too, such is the extent of his trophy cabinet.
Patience Needed With Camavinga Deal
Another linked with a transfer to Manchester United in amongst the news is young midfielder Eduardo Camavinga. The Rennes youngster will not be signing a new contract and, with that in mind, the Ligue 1 side would prefer a fee this summer than losing him on a free next year.
Like Varane, if Manchester United are patient, they could secure a bargain deal. They do still face the danger of missing out on the 18-year-old, however, with Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain also interested in making a move.
Manchester United Transfer News: Potential Departures
Of course, as United splash the cash, they’ll likely look to recoup the money spent with sales. Per the Athletic, that could even include Paul Pogba. The Frenchman is off the back of a standout tournament at the Euros with France, where on an individual basis, did not deserve the early exit. If PSG, the only feasible side, put the right money on the table then Pogba would have a choice to make.
As of right now, though, an exit back to his homeland looks unlikely with a new contract set to be negotiated.
Onto a likelier departure, Jesse Lingard is two weeks into the final year of his United contract with his value set at £30 million. Possible suitors West Ham United reportedly see that fee as too high for a player that won’t feature enough for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side. According to the Athletic, Lingard wants to stay and fight for his place. Whether that is a realistic aim or not, is yet to be seen, however.
