Gianluigi Donnarumma Completes Paris Saint-Germain Move

Gianluigi Donnarumma

After leaving AC Milan as a free agent following his contract expiry, Gianluigi Donnarumma has completed a move to Paris Saint-Germain, signing a deal until 2026. The 22-year-old is currently at the Euros with Italy, having just progressed to the last eight. The young goalkeeper already has bags of experience to his name, making him the perfect player for PSG.

PSG may have just landed one of the deals of the summer, when considering Donnarumma’s age and price. The goalkeeper was one of the hottest free agents in football before joining up with Mauricio Pochettino. He adds to the earlier free signing of Georginio Wijnaldum.

PSG Now Stronger Than Ever

After losing out on the Ligue 1 title to Lille, it became clear that PSG needed to strengthen. They have dreams of winning the Champions League, but those dreams are pointless if they can’t even win the league they are famous for dominating. With Wijnaldum, who has highlighted a different side to his game for the Netherlands at Euro 2020, and Gianluigi Donnarumma added to the squad, Pochettino has the opportunity to make history.

The offensive side of their game was already sorted. A partnership of Kylian Mbappe and Neymar could take nine pieces of wood to new heights. But in order to pose a threat on Europe’s biggest stage, teams can’t just rely on individuals. Instead, the collective must be strong. Signing one of the best goalkeepers around does no harm in reaching that goal.

The PSG squad now looks far stronger. Having Keylor Navas to call upon is already an example of the Parisians flexing their muscles. Add the option of Donnarumma on top of that and the fans are simply being spoilt.

Gianluigi Donnarumma will likely take the number one spot, which will disappoint Navas, but having that competition will only boost both players next season.
