Freddie Woodman Set for Bournemouth Loan

Newcastle United are set to loan out young goalkeeper Freddie Woodman for another season, with a move to Championship club Bournemouth looking likely, according to Mark McAdam. The 24-year-old has spent the last two seasons on loan at Swansea City, where he achieved successive playoff finishes with the Welsh club.

Woodman is Cherries’ First Choice

Newcastle goalkeeper Freddie Woodman is set for yet another loan move away from St. James’ Park, with Bournemouth the most likely club to sign the 24-year-old.

The Cherries are in the market for a new goalkeeper, with Fabrizio Romano reporting last week that Genoa have enquired about current number one, Asmir Begovic.

The Bosnia and Herzegovina goalkeeper has been at the club since 2017 but has spent much of his time out on loan, but was called upon last season following Aaron Ramsdale’s return to Sheffield United.

Now, new manager Scott Parker is looking for stability in the number one role, with Woodman being able to provide that, having spent the last two seasons at Swansea City. During his time in South Wales, Woodman reached the playoffs in successive seasons.

At 24-years-old, the goalkeeper already has some valuable experience under his belt, particularly in the second tier.

Move Pending Martin Dubravka Injury

While Bournemouth have identified Woodman as a transfer target, a potential move could yet fall through from a Newcastle side. Martin Dubravka is set to see a consultant on a foot injury, which could halt any move to the south coast for Woodman.

According to Chronicle reporter Lee Ryder, Woodman had gone for a medical at Bournemouth but the injury news to Dubravka has halted any possible switch. With Karl Darlow having missed the back end of last season through injury, manager Steve Bruce may be tempted to keep hold of Woodman, should any further injuries occur.
