Brahim Diaz Extends Loan Spell at AC Milan

Brahim Diaz

Brahim Diaz has extended his stay at AC Milan, as reported by Fabrizio Romano. He rejoins on a two-year loan deal, keeping him at the San Siro until June 2023. AC Milan will then have the option of signing him permanently from Real Madrid, for a fee of €22 million. Diaz spent the entirety of the 2020/21 season at AC Milan, making 39 appearances in all competitions.

A Further Two Years for Diaz

Diaz spent the whole of the last campaign on loan at AC Milan. He clearly made a lasting impression on manager Stefano Pioli, who has committed to keeping him around for a further two seasons. The Madrid-loanee featured 27 times in Serie A, scoring four and assisting a further four goals.

By keeping him around, Brahim Diaz will continue to be a member of an exciting group of young, attacking players at AC Milan. Along with Samu Castillejo, Alexis Saelemaekers, and Rafael Leao, AC Milan have accumulated a spirited crop of attacking talent that could form the basis of their forward play over the next decade.

The two-year loan deal may suggest that Real Madrid don’t see Diaz as part of their future. However, should AC Milan choose to activate their buy option, Madrid will then have a buy-back clause which they can trigger whilst he remains an AC Milan player. Essentially a safety net if he develops into a world class talent.

AC Milan are finally back on the right path, after years of sub-optimal performances. Last season, they mounted a serious title challenge, and were leading the pack at the halfway stage, until their city rivals Inter Milan took over.

They will play Champions League football for the first time in eight seasons. They are rightfully back where the great team belongs. As far as the league goes, they will hope to once again mount a serious challenge for the Scudetto.
