Key defender Gabriel has not participated in any of Brazil’s recent games since joining the squad late after his appearance in the Champions League final for Arsenal against Paris Saint-Germain. It seems fairly certain he will start in defence with Marquinhos.
The build-up to the tournament wasn’t ideal for Carlo Ancelotti’s team, losing Wesley to injury and calling up Ederson to the squad. Explaining his decision to call up Ederson, Ancelotti said:
“We brought in Ederson because the doubt when choosing the 26 was whether to call up nine or eight defenders and six midfielders. We chose nine defenders, but I think Danilo and Ibañez give us confidence in that position, so we preferred to strengthen the midfield a little with Éderson, who had a very good end to the season.”
Neymar’s injury woes have occupied many of the headlines around the Brazilian squad. Ancelotti spoke on Neymar’s availability:
“Neymar is working very hard to recover as quickly as possible. The expectation is that he will recover and rejoin the group next week.”
Morocco Team News
Morocco’s build-up has been affected by injuries, with Nayef Aguerd and Abde Ezzalzouli being cut from the squad after picking up injuries in a friendly. Amine Sbai and Marwane Saadane were named as their replacements.
The fitness of Achraf Hakimi was of concern until he completed 65 minutes against Norway, boosting Mohamed Ouahbi’s squad.
