Chelsea are set to get their public pre-season tour under way with the Sydney Cup set to kick off on July 28 when they play Western Sydney Wanderers. The travelling pre-season squad has been announced and with it comes some speculation about who was left home and why, as there are a number of players who could be sold before the start of the league campaign.
Chelsea Travelling Pre-Season Squad Excludes Unwanted Fringe Talent
World Cup Breaks & Injuries
Some of the names left out are notable only because they were at the World Cup and will need a required break before returning to club level. Names like Mike Penders, Malo Gusto, Reece James, Enzo Fernandez, Pedro Neto, and more are excluded from the travelling pre-season squad but that isn’t an indication of them being up for sale.

The other two absences that can’t be read into too much is that Emmanuel Emegha and Geovany Quenda have both been left home due to injuries. That doesn’t mean they’re guaranteed to stay this summer as loan moves are possible, but their exclusion isn’t a sign of anything just yet.
Who Could Be Leaving?
With those who might stay out of the way, it is time to look at who was left out of the squad and could be leaving the Blues during this transfer window. Centre-back duo and former Monaco men Axel Disasi and Benoit Badiashile appear to be on the shop window. Caleb Wiley has been overlooked for some academy graduates and can’t seem to get a sniff near the senior squad after some failed loans.

In the attack, we see Jamie Gittens included along with Dastan Satpayev, there is no place for young Marc Guiu who was initially loaned out last summer and could be on the way out this year. Academy striker Shim Mheuka is a notable omission with the youngster potentially heading out on loan.
