Inter Milan Eyeing Sassuolo Star

Inter Milan

Italian giant Inter Milan are showing interest in Sassuolo striker Gianluca Scamacca, according to Fabrizio Romano. Giovanni Carnevali, the Sassuolo club CEO, said that Inter have confirmed their interest but Scamacca is also being monitored by Premier League clubs. Sassuolo are currently a hotbed for Italian talent, as they also have another striker in high demand.

The Player and the Fit

Scamacca looks to be “up next” in the lineage of Italian strikers performing well in Serie A, with names such as Ciro Immobile and Andrea Belotti shining. Due to this, Inter are ready to pounce.

The club’s current striking options include Lautaro Martinez, Edin Dzeko, and Alexis Sanchez. Inter will surely hold on tight to Martinez. He’s succeeding greatly and quite young. Dzeko and Sanchez, however, are moving past their prime. Dzeko is 36-years-old and Sanchez is 33-years-old. Due to this, Inter are looking to get younger in the striking department.

Scamacca is just 23-years-old. He doesn’t turn 24 until halfway through next season. This season, he holds 13 goals to his name in 29 matches. It’s already an improvement from last season, where Scamacca scored eight goals in 26 matches for Genoa. Scamacca doubling his goal output from last season is a very realistic scenario.

Poaching talent from fellow league competitors is a strategy done by successful clubs. Juventus had a decade-long dynasty in Serie A, mostly through acquiring their rivals’ top players. Simply put, this strengthens a team and depletes a rival. After winning the Scudetto last season and being very much in the race this season, Inter are looking to duplicate the former Juventus strategy.

Although adding talent is always important, Inter are also focusing on retaining talent. The club has important players who want to stick around. Should they emerge victorious in the Scudetto race, Inter will be at the beginning of their own dynasty-like path.
