Euro 2020 Fantasy Football Semi-Finals Assessment

Euro 2020 Fantasy Football

The Euro 2020 Fantasy Football semi-finals round kicks off on July 6. The tournament has been a really enjoyable one so far and the remaining matches look quite exciting as well. Let’s have a look at how to tackle this round from a fantasy manager’s point of view.

Euro 2020 Fantasy Football Semi-Finals Picks

Quick Tips

With five transfers available for this round and five more for the final, one should not worry about picking players from teams that will progress that much. We only need 11 starters for the final. So, for this round one needs to try and get all the best players from the four teams.

Italy v Spain

A classic battle between two powerhouses of European football kicks off the semi-finals this Tuesday. The Italians have impressed everyone in this tournament and will go in as slight favourites. Roberto Mancini’s men have mixed attacking football with the Italian tradition of gamesmanship perfectly so far.

The way they managed their lead against Belgium in the last ten minutes or so was a lesson to many teams. However, they will be without the impressive Leonardo Spinazzola for the rest of the tournament. The Spaniards are also facing injury threats with Pablo Sarabia a big doubt for the match. We will get the lineups before the start so one should wait before making any transfers.

One thing to consider is to try and cover all the possible hauls. Lorenzo Insigne and Federico Chiesa like to take shots from distance at every possible opportunity which makes them really dangerous. The Spanish defence has not looked that strong throughout the tournament as well. In contrast, the Italian defence has done extremely well so far, having conceded just two goals in this tournament.

However, one should not ignore the threat of Luis Enrique’s men as well. They scored five goals each in the two matches prior to their insipid display in the quarter-finals. They have a real problem with finishing the chances that they create. It is unlikely to see them create that many against the Italians so they need their attacking players to find some sharpness in this match.

Best Picks

Ciro Immobile, Lorenzo Insigne, Ferran Torres, Alvaro Morata, Jordi Alba, Dani Olmo, Leonardo Bonucci, Emerson Palmieri, Gianluigi Donnarumma, Nicolò Barella and Federico Chiesa.

It is probably best to take two players from Spain at most with three or four Italians. A clean sheet for Italy is possible so one defender/keeper should be there. However, one should not bet on a clean sheet for either side and try to cover the attacking hauls more.

England v Denmark

England will start their match against Denmark as overwhelming favourites. The Three Lions beat Ukraine comprehensively with Harry Kane, Raheem Sterling and Luke Shaw looking in ominous form. Those three players are must-picks.

England will play at Wembley Stadium as well which should help them in both the semi-final and the final if they make it.

Mason Mount, Jordan Pickford, Harry Maguire and John Stones are also good picks from them. With Gareth Southgate changing formation and personnel in every game so far, one cannot be certain about the other players so it is probably best to choose those that look nailed-on to start.

Denmark have been quite impressive also and should not be disregarded completely. They had a great first half against the Czech Republic and managed to take the control of the game back in the second half after a really shaky few minutes.

Their coach Kasper Hjulmand has shown how astute he is as a tactician by changing personnel at the right times throughout this tournament.

One should remember how impressive the Danes were in the first half against Belgium in the group stage. However, that was in front of their fans in Copenhagen. Joakim Mæhle is the best pick from Denmark without a doubt. Mikkel Damsgaard keeps getting taken off at the hour mark which is a worry for his fantasy owners. Will Dolberg start or will Poulsen reclaim his spot?

Best Picks

Harry Kane, Raheem Sterling, Luke Shaw, Joakim Mæhle, John Stones, Jordan Pickford, Harry Maguire, Mason Mount and Mikkel Damsgaard.

It is difficult to see Denmark progressing. However, England won’t find it as easy as they did against Ukraine. A clean sheet is possible for England so one should try and get two defensive picks from them. Probably four or five players from England should be picked. From Denmark, picking two players at most seems smart.
