Sam Hutchinson Completes Sheffield Wednesday Move

Hutchinson Wednesday

Sam Hutchinson has officially re-joined Sheffield Wednesday on a free transfer, subject to international clearance. The 31-year-old, who can play both at the back and in midfield, offers the Owls crucial experience in their pursuit of Championship survival.

As it stands, Wednesday sit 23rd, six points adrift of safety. The experience of signings, such as Hutchinson, could prove the difference between survival and the dreaded drop.

Just one summer on from his exit, the 31-year-old arrives looking to provide the Owls with hope once more. In his last spell at the club, he made 151 appearances and played a key role in Sheffield Wednesday’s successful play-off campaigns between 2015 and 2017.

Sheffield Wednesday in Desperate Situation

With Hutchinson now secured, the hunt for a new manager will now come to the forefront once more. Tony Pulis was meant to be the man to guide Wednesday to safety, but, ultimately, failed to do so.

Since his dismissal, things have looked up for the Owls with three wins in three before an expected FA Cup exit to Everton. Even so, the improvements in the league will please those at Hillsborough who’ll be desperate to survive.

The next permanent appointment must be the right one, though, with six points standing between themselves and 20th place Nottingham Forest. Up next, the Owls host Preston North End.

North End currently sit in the mid-table comforts of 11th having endured a relatively relaxed season with little issues. Wednesday, with Hutchinson now back, can use this to their advantage, however.

As a result of Preston’s comforts, they may lack the urgency needed to secure a result. With the form Wednesday are in, too, now more than ever is the time to secure the all-important three points as they look for Championship safety.
