Lee Departs Sheffield Wednesday After Eight-and-a-Half Years

The experienced midfielder arrives as Bolton’s second signing of this transfer window. Lee had been on trial with the club for several weeks and has now earned a contract until the end of the 2021/22 season.

He joins a Bolton side desperate to get themselves into the promotion race after a disappointing first half of the season. The Trotters sit 16th in the League Two table, eight points off the play-off places.

Lee is a product of the Manchester United academy and made his way in the Football League spending time on loan at Crewe Alexandra and Queens Park Rangers. After his exit from Old Trafford, he joined Oldham Athletic before departing the Latics for Sheffield Wednesday in 2012.

Lee became a popular figure with teammates, management staff and fans at Sheffield Wednesday. He made over 200 appearances, scoring 22 times for the Owls. He is fondly remembered by the fans but injuries hampered the latter stages of his Sheffield Wednesday career.

A move to Bolton offers a new challenge as the Trotters look towards mounting a promotion charge during the second half of the season.

Lee is available to make his debut in Bolton’s next league against Exeter City on Tuesday, January 8.

Lee Delighted To Get Deal Done

Speaking to the Bolton website about his move, Lee said: “I’ve been training with the club for a few weeks and I’m delighted to have now signed.”

“You’ve only got to look around the place to see that the potential to go back up is massive. This is a club that wants to be at a higher level. I’m coming here to help the team get promotion and go as high as we can.”
