EFL Records 112 Positive COVID-19 Cases

EFL COVID

The EFL has confirmed that after a total of 3507 tests involving players and staff from 66 clubs returned with 112 positive COVID-19 cases. The testing involved clubs with forthcoming fixtures in FA Cup and league games this weekend.

The six clubs not involved in the testing will receive theirs before their next league games. From next week, the EFL will move to testing players and staff twice a week for COVID-19.

The news of the 112 cases will worry many, who have already seen several fixtures postponed due to the virus.

Norwich City Confirm COVID-19 Cases

Among the clubs to confirm positive cases of COVID-19 are Norwich City. The Canaries confirmed that goalkeeper Tim Krul, striker Adam Idah and one other unconfirmed staff member.

The news leaves Norwich without their first-team goalkeeper heading into the game against Coventry City in the FA Cup- a competition Daniel Farke would like a run in.

Speaking to the media, the Norwich boss said: “Last season was difficult for us but we had a great cup win with away wins at Preston, Burnley and Tottenham and were one minute away from reaching the penalty shootout against Manchester United. I’d love to have a cup run with a better outcome this season.

“We won’t use the cup game for gifts or to try things out, that’s what friendlies are for. That doesn’t mean we won’t rotate, but those who come in will be fresh and highly motivated. I expect a difficult game against a good, solid Championship side.

“We know we’re capable of creating moments like we did at Tottenham. In order to be allowed to live in moments like that against Tottenham or Man City, you have to stay focused and concentrated in the first rounds.”
