Mikel Arteta Plans a Move for Adrien Rabiot

A loan move for Adrien Rabiot is possible in January as Mikel Arteta vows to make changes to his new Arsenal side, according to the Times.

As well, wantaway Granit Xhaka has agreed on a move away to Hertha Berlin, the Mirror understands, leaving a hole in Arsenal’s central midfield. Recently, in Arsenal’s draw away at Bournemouth on Boxing Day, Xhaka started alongside Lucas Torreira, who showed great fight in Arteta’s first game in charge.

Where Would Adrien Rabiot Slot in at Arsenal?

Adrien Rabiot would be able to join Torreira in defensive midfield, and in behind the attacking midfielder in Arteta’s recently fielded formation of 4-2-3-1. Arsenal have recently been guilty of Xhaka’s mistakes and panic, meaning Rabiot would instil a better sense of confidence in the team’s midfield.

Adrien Rabiot has started just five games in the Serie A since joining Juventus this summer from Paris Saint-Germain of Ligue 1. The 24-year-old may be looking for more game time and to play a more important role within a team, but will Juventus let him go?

According to Metro, Juventus are set to reject any offer Mikel Arteta submits for Rabiot.

Granit Xhaka’s Time at Arsenal Summed Up

For a £31.5 million fee, Xhaka joined up with Arsenal in the summer transfer window of 2016/17 season. In his first Premier League season, he made 32 appearances and played an important role as an anchor in Arsenal’s midfield. Highlights of his time at Arsenal included a screamer against Hull City.

His frequent appearance in the Arsenal midfield meant he was one of the most fielded players in the past few years alongside other regulars. Recently, he was scolded by Arsenal fans for not meeting their standards of performance. An incident involving Xhaka using vulgar language towards Arsenal fans as he went off the pitch in a rage, all but confirmed his end as an Arsenal player.
