The Writing Has Been on the Wall for Some Time

West Ham announced via their Twitter account that Manuel Pellegrini had left the club with “immediate effect”. The Hammers have been desperately poor this season and have amassed a disappointing 19 points from their 19 league games. Defeat to a second-string Leicester team was the straw that broke the camel’s back, or in this case, cost Pellegrini his job.

West Ham’s form has been rotten this season, winning just three of their last 15 league games. They have even set a new home record of consecutive losses. Defeat to Leicester this evening meant West Ham lost four straight home Premier League games for the very first time. The writing has been on the wall for and now the Hammers must quickly find a new manager to steer them clear of the relegation zone.

The Pellegrini experiment failed for owners David Gold and David Sullivan who heavily backed the Chilean to get them into Europe. However, their money has yet to be rewarded and the Hammers are in desperate need of a confidence boost and someone who can steer their sinking ship.

The Owners Confirm They Needed to Act

West Ham’s club statement confirmed a “change is required to get the club back on track”. David Sullivan reiterated the club had to make a change to align with “their ambitions this season”. Whoever comes in at West Ham needs to hit the ground running and fast. The club has yet to confirm who will take caretaker charge as West Ham’s managerial hunt begins. West Ham kick-off 2020 with a crucial clash against fellow strugglers Bournemouth.
