Power Five: The Greatest Factions in WWE History

  1. The Hart Foundation

The Hart Foundation was formed by Bret “The Hitman” Hart on March 31, 1997, who would recruit his younger brother Owen Hart, brothers-in-law Jim Neidhart and The British Bulldog, and close friend Brian Pillman. The group pulled off a dual political persona that has never been replicated.

In the United States, they were anti-American heels who insulted the crowds, while in Canada, they were cheered just as intensely. It is this psychological trick that causes many to consider the group as one of the greatest factions in WWE history.

While most factions have a weaker link that takes on the role as the enforcer, The Hart Foundation is arguably one of the most talented groups of wrestlers assembled.

At one point, they held every active male championship in the company, with the WWF Championship held by Bret Hart after defeating The Undertaker at SummerSlam, Owen Hart wearing the Intercontinental Championship twice in 1997, The British Bulldog winning the inaugural European Championship, and Owen Hart holding the Tag Team Championship alongside The British Bulldog.

It was the group’s rivalry with Stone Cold Steve Austin and D-Generation X that started the Attitude Era and earned this group such a high ranking on the list.
