Romain Faivre in Ligue 1 Switch as Lyon Move Beckons
The Player and the Fit
Faivre continues to excel in Ligue 1. It was a matter of time until he moved on to a new challenge, and Lyon have acted swiftly to replace Guimarães. At one point Faivre was linked with a move to AC Milan, but that has not materialised.
The French youngster can play a multitude of positions from the attacking midfield, both wing positions, and even the central midfield. He’s produced well in all positions he’s played in.
In the 2020/21 season, Faivre scored six goals and provided five assists for Brest. He shined as an integral part of their squad. This season, his production continues to rise. In 21 matches, Faivre has scored seven goals and provided five assists.
Guimarães provided four assists in 20 appearances for Lyon this season, although typically playing a deeper role than Faivre. The new signing offers Lyon a tad more flexibility and versatility around the pitch.
Lyon are currently 11th in the Ligue 1 table. At first glance, that doesn’t look ideal, though, the top four race in France is as tight as it gets. Although Lyon are so far down, they’re only four points behind fourth-place Strasbourg. Faivre’s departure may knock Brest out of that same positional battle, though a positive can be taken that they are comfortably clear of the relegation places for now.
Faivre should continue to improve. The Lyon transfer gives him a bigger stage in Ligue 1, and perhaps in European competitions, as the 2022 FIFA World Cup for France approaches.
