Roma right-back Alessandro Florenzi is close to joining AC Milan in this summer’s transfer window. According to Fabrizio Romano and Gianluca Di Marzio, the Italian defender will join the Milan side on loan with an option to buy.
This follows AC Milan’s unsuccessful attempts to have Manchester United’s Diogo Dalot return to the side. Dalot, who spent last season on loan at Milan, looks unlikely to sign after the two sides have failed to find an agreement over the defender. Now, it seems that Florenzi is the preferred alternative for Milan coach Stefano Pioli.
Alessandro Florenzi Close to AC Milan Loan
What He Offers AC Milan
The 30-year-old spent last season on loan at Paris Saint-Germain. His performances over the course of the season earned him a place in Italy’s Euro 2020 squad this summer. He featured just twice in the finals as the Italians won the tournament with a 3-2 penalty-shootout win against England at Wembley.
Florenzi is known for his versatility and that is something that will make him an asset for Pioli. Milan have had a busy transfer window so far as they look to win the title following their second-place finish in last season’s Serie A. So far, they have recruited Chelsea duo Fikayo Tomori and Olivier Giroud, as well as French goalkeeper Mike Maignan from Lille. In addition to this, they have Sandro Tonali (on a permanent) and Brahim Díaz (on loan) extending their time with the club.
High Hopes for AC Milan
AC Milan will be optimistic ahead of the new Serie A season. Their recruitment thus far has been well thought out and symbolises an intention to challenge for first place. City rivals and reigning champions, Inter, now look set to lose star-man Romelu Lukaku to Chelsea. This gives AC Milan a boost for the season ahead as a title challenge looks more than possible.
Defensively, AC Milan have strengthened, bringing in left-back Fodé Ballo-Touré from Monaco for £4.5 million, Tomori impressed last season when on loan and Maignan won Ligue 1 with Lille. Should they be able to complete the signing of Florenzi they will have good depth and quality; something they desperately need in the latter stages of the season.
