AC Milan Confirm Mike Maignan Signing

Mike Maignan

AC Milan have completed the signing of goalkeeper Mike Maignan from Lille. The Frenchman arrives at the club on a five-year deal and will replace the outgoing Gianluigi Donnarumma, who is set to leave Milan as a free agent.

Maignan leaves a Lille side who were recently crowned as Ligue 1 champions, fending off Paris Saint-Germain, Monaco and Lyon who were also in the race.

Maignan Happy to Join ‘One of the Biggest Clubs in the World’

Speaking to club media after his signing, Maignan said: “I am very happy to join AC Milan. It’s one of the biggest clubs in the world with ambitions and projects for the future. I am very happy to bring what I have to this project.”

“It’s been the best season of my career so far. It’s a reward for having won the title in France. We won the league and being here is a reward for me.

“I like playing with the ball. This has been very useful to me as modern football requires keepers to use their feet too.”

Replacing Donnarumma

Maignan comes in as a replacement for Gianluigi Donnarumma, who is set to depart after making over 200 appearances for Milan despite being just 22-years-old.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Donnarumma will decide on his next club soon. The goalkeeper was heavily linked with moves away from Milan last summer, particularly to Chelsea, but rumours have been scarce in this window.

Maignan will help Milan compete in the Champions League after they made a return to the competition following a second-place finish in Serie A this season.
