Colombia Team News

The only change for Colombia’s XI is expected to be a forced change. Striker Jhon Cordoba will miss the rest of the World Cup, and in his place will be Luis Suarez, who has also been a regular starter at the position for his country.

James Rodriguez should continue as the starting #10 despite a strong performance from Juan Fernando Quintero in relief. James was suffering from flu, and apparently the illness is circulating around the Colombian camp, though manager Nestor Lorenzo said they have “already recovered”.

The Guardian highlighted Colombia’s massive fan support this World Cup, every game has been a home game for La Sele, a team that has played games in Mexico, the United States,, and now Canada. That fan support does provide a meaningful lift to team morale.

Switzerland Team News

Up to 5 first choice XI injuries burden this Switzerland squad, Luca Jaquez and Michel Aebischer are not as serious, but the absences of Johan Manzambi, a young talent who has impacted five goals for his country this tournament, and likely Ruben Vargas and Djibril Sow are significant. Manzambi and Vargas have powered much of Switzerland’s attack this World Cup.

Without Manzambi and Vargas, in would step Noah Okafor and Fabian Rieder. Rieder, who plays for Augsburg saw time in three of Switzerland’s games, including against Algeria. The Leeds player Okafor also had minutes against Algeria. Both players will be aiming to setup Breel Embolo to score more goals.
