The US men’s national team play South Korea in a friendly match for their first fixture in two months, at the Sports Illustrated Stadium. The match takes place on September 6. How the USMNT Have Lined-up Recently

The USMNT have not played a fixture since their defeat to Mexico in the final of the CONCACAF Gold Cup, when they lined up with a 4-2-3-1 formation.

Matt Freese started in net, as he had done throughout the tournament. Alex Freeman played at right-back, with Max Arfsten at left-back. Tim Ream lined up as the left centre-back, next to Chris Richards, both of whom have Premier League experience.

Another Premier League player in Tyler Adams was at the heart of the midfield, with Luca de la Torre next to him. The Bournemouth player has been exceptional this season in the absence of Lewis Cook and Ryan Christie. Malik Tillman played as an attacking midfielder.

Exciting prodigy Diego Luna started on the left-wing, with Sebastian Berhalter on the right. Patrick Agyemang, of Derby County, led the line as striker, though managed just one shot which came in the 90th minute.

USMNT Recent Form

The team’s defeat to Mexico was a disappointing one, as the performance did not deserve a better result than the scoreline reflected. They created just 0.62 expected goals, and were dominated most of the game with just 40% possession. Still, the game could have been theirs, with two big chances missed, but their only goal came after just four minutes from a corner.

Their open play chance creation will need to improve before their home World Cup next year.

USMNT Injuries and Absentees to Consider

For this international break, there are three main injury concerns to consider.

Tillman has a calf injury, meaning that he has yet to make his debut for Bayer Leverkusen after a summer transfer. He should be back soon as he was aiming for a return on August 23 against Hoffenheim, though wasn’t quite ready.

Meanwhile, Miles Robinson is unfit and has missed two matches for Cincinnati with a leg injury, though he is also not expected to be out for the long-term. Robinson played his collegiate soccer for Syracuse University, where he won the ACC Defensive Player of the Year Award. Those college years surely will have been demanding, as balancing athletics and academics can be challenging. Following his college career, he moved to FC Boston in the Premier Development League.

Finally, Patrick Agyemang has only just returned to training following surgery due to a double hernia, and is also yet to make his debut for his new side. He had reportedly been playing with this injury for Charlotte last season, but will return to action for Derby County in the near future.

None of these players feature in the roster for the September camp.
