Former Arsenal and Liverpool Player Close to Signing for New Club

Former Liverpool and Arsenal player, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is close to deciding on his new club, reports Lyall Thomas. The midfielder joined six-time UEFA Champions League winner from Arsenal for a fee of around £33 million in the summer of 2017. The Sky Sports reporter provided an update regarding the former England international’s next potential destination after he was left without a club when his contract with the Reds expired at the beginning of July.

The 29-year-old parted ways with the Merseyside club after the expiration of his contract at the end of 2022/23 season. Sky Sports journalist Lyall Thomas reports that the versatile midfielder is poised to embrace a fresh challenge in the Turkish league with Besiktas.

As per the reports, Oxlade-Chamberlain is present at the Turkish club’s training ground ahead of a stadium tour. The tour will be followed by a round of talks where the club and player will hope to agree on personal terms to accelerate the deal. The seasoned Premier League player could undergo a medical if the talks go well.

Interest From Other Clubs

The Anfield side’s announcement that their 29-year-old will be leaving as a free agent sparked interest from other clubs. This did not come as a surprise since the agile midfielder is a seasoned Premier League player having spent his whole career in England’s top tier.

According to reports Premier League club Brentford and a club from Saudi, whose name hasn’t been revealed were keen on securing his services. It appears that the Turkish giants have beaten both clubs to the midfielder’s signature, with the deal likely to be agreed soon.

Time in the Premier League

The Portsmouth-born midfielder’s spent his entire career up until now in the Premier League. His journey has been filled with highs and lows. He burst onto the scene with Southampton at the tender age of 17 and rose to prominence with his electrifying performances. The then-teenager was snapped up by Arsenal in the summer of 2011, where he spent six seasons playing in various positions showcasing his immense versatility.

Liverpool signed the talented playmaker from the London club in 2017 where he played up until last season, having fallen out of favour during his later years. He won a Premier League title and the UEFA Champions League on one occasion during his time at Anfield. Oxlade-Chamberlain spent over a decade in England’s first division, playing a total 393 games while scoring 48 goals and assisting 56 times.
