In a huge transfer bombshell, it is being reported by David Ornstein that Chelsea have reached an agreement to sign Aston Villa attacker Morgan Rogers for a few of £117 million. While the deal still has to be finalised, it appears the young Englishman is going to make his long-awaited move to one of the traditional big six Premier League clubs. The reactions to the deal are already flying in.
Chelsea Agree Deal to Sign Morgan Rogers
Huge Fee
As outlined by fan reactions, the quoted £117 Million is a “massive overpay” due to the current state of the transfer market and the inflated prices for English talent, as shown by Elliot Anderson’s big money move earlier in the summer.

It is possible that the Blues have included some add-ons that would make the fee far lower as a base with additional payments requiring some success but that has yet to be reported by any reputable journalist within the Chelsea coverage sphere.
Is He Worth It?
England’s performance and subsequent World Cup elimination brought with it a lot of spotlight on the players involved, with Rogers himself coming in for criticism when one viewer labelled him as the “most overrated player” they have ever watched. This is a common critique of the attacker due to his inconsistency and his reliance on long-range goals to make up for his lacklustre goal output.

In 125 appearances for Aston Villa, the 22-year-old has contributed 31 goals and 29 assists. While not huge quantities, Rogers has shown an ability to create goals for himself or his teammates at every level, whether it was for Middlesbrough, Manchester City U21, or West Brom U18, he has been a consistent creator. Whether this scales up to Xabi Alonso’s system at Chelsea where he will see more of the ball remains to be seen but that will be the hope within the club as he offers a partner for Cole Palmer in the attacking areas.
