Frank Lampard’s Everton Pursuing Atalanta Forward to Help in the Final Third

Everton are in a precarious position at the moment and need to work their way away from the Premier League relegation zone. Goals is a major issue and so this transfer target makes a lot of sense. The Toffees could make a move for Colombia and Atalanta forward Duvan Zapata, as per Fabrizio Romano.

All About the Player

With one point from their last possible 15 – this coming in a shock draw at the Etihad Stadium – Everton are in a whole world of trouble. They, along with West Ham United and Southampton make up the bottom three, all of them on just 15 points.

Frank Lampard needs to find goals from somewhere and so he will surely be hoping to make an addition or two this month. One of the names being linked with the club is Atalanta forward Duvan Zapata. He has performed excellently in the last few years in Italy and could finally be about to earn a move to English shores.

The 31-year-old was decent in a Napoli shirt but truly came to the fore when playing for La Dea under the stewardship of Gian Piero Gasperini. Including the loan spell with them, he has amassed 67 league goals in the famous black and blue.

According to Romano’s reports, “Atalanta would only be open to discuss a permanent transfer for Zapata, as things stand.” On the other hand, “Everton [are] open to loan with option clause proposal.”

Where Would the Atalanta Forward Fit in at Goodison Park?

Zapata wouldn’t exactly be challenged when it comes to obtaining minutes in an Everton shirt. Richarlison has of course moved on to pastures new and Dominic Calvert-Lewin regularly struggles to stay fit.

Neal Maupay has scored just once since joining from Brighton & Hove Albion and the others in contention aren’t recognised strikers. The Atalanta forward, albeit may be past his prime years, would bring a new element to the table for Lampard.

Everton need to turn their season around sooner rather than later and Zapata would be a good move on the way to doing that.
