The 31-year-old midfielder also has the opportunity to talk with other clubs and sign a pre-contract agreement with them in January, when he will move into the last six months of his contract with the Blues. However, it looks like Chelsea do not want that to happen and have seemingly offered the Italian international a new deal.

Santos told Tuttomercatoweb: “We’ve received a proposal from Chelsea to sign a new contract so it’s our priority to discuss with Chelsea. Napoli interest? We’d be happy for their interest, it’s a special club for Jorginho but there’s nothing as of now.”

While Jorginho’s camp appears happy to have received a new contract offer, it doesn’t seem like they’re still satisfied with the terms and might want improvements for him to sign a new long-term contract.

They have already signed several promising young players, including striker David Datro Fofana and Andrey Santos. The Blues have also agreed the signing Christopher Nkunku from RB Leipzig, with the Frenchman set to join in the summer.

That is why there is a general feeling that the Blues might not be keen on keeping ageing players like Jorginho or N’Golo Kante. Both the players are out of contract after this season ends and could walk away as free agents, with Barcelona reportedly eager to sign the duo. Jorginho – who was labelled as a world-class midfielder by ex-Liverpool defender Jose Enrique earlier this year – has made 20 appearances for the London side this season and has been a vital part of Potter’s side.
