Southampton Announce Two Further Signings as the Window Slams Shut

Duje Caleta-Car and Juan larios

Southampton have been chasing down Nottingham Forest’s record-breaking figure of new arrivals with a very busy deadline day. Manchester City and the Saints have struck up quite the relationship this month and that has continued into the final hours of the transfer window, which has led to the South Coast club announcing the signings of Duje Caleta‐Car and Juan Larios.

Southampton Announce Two More Deals

Southampton Announce Defender Duje Caleta-Car

The bigger name of the pair is certainly centre-back Caleta-Car. It wasn’t that long ago that West Ham United were leading the race for the Croatian defender but he has ended up at St Marys. On top of his exploits at an international level, he has garnered plenty of European experience during his time at Marseille.

The French club are the only team from their country to ever win the Champions League and more recently, they went deep into the inaugural UEFA Europa Conference League. The French club reached the semi-finals where they lost to Feyenoord, who went on to be edged out by Jose Mourinho’s AS Roma.

Southampton announced Caleta-Car having allowed defender Jan Bednarek to leave the club. West Ham failed in their pursuit of the Polish defender and were edged out by Aston Villa. Former Plymouth Argyle man Jack Stephens has also moved on, joining struggling AFC Bournemouth on loan.

Juan Larios Joins Fellow Manchester City Youngsters

Samuel Edozie was confirmed by the club towards the end of this transfer window and a familiar face in Larios is following him over. These are the third and fourth names to make this same move and all of them are joining on permanent deals. Gavin Bazunu is the man in between the sticks whilst Romeo Lavia plays further up the field. The former has been capped by the Republic of Ireland 10 times, and Lavia was on target in the recent win over Chelsea.

Southampton can be pleased with their transfer window, and especially with the signings of Caleta-Car and Larios, with the former bringing plenty of experience to the Saints defence, and the later bringing plenty of technical ability, having come through the La Masia academy before joining Manchester City.
