Former Manchester United Target Paulo Dybala Signs for Jose Mourinho’s Roma

Paulo Dybala has joined AS Roma on a three-year contract that will see him playing in the Italian capital until 2025.

The 28-year-old joins the club as a free agent after spending seven years at Serie A rivals Juventus.

Why Roma?

A decisive factor in the process for Dybala was the enticing opportunity to work with head coach Jose Mourinho. ‘The Special One’ is renowned for his achievements throughout his managerial career.

More recently, he led Roma to European success by winning the UEFA Conference League after beating Feyenoord 1-0 in Tirana.

Dybala said: “I am joining a team that is on the up, a club that continues to put in place strong foundations for the future.

“And a coach, Jose Mourinho, that it will be a privilege to work with.”

The Argentine also touched on the dedication and support amongst the Roma faithful, adding: “As an opponent, I have always admired the atmosphere created by the Roma fans – I now cannot wait for the chance to salute them while wearing this shirt.”

Of course, as a free agent, the striker was linked with several clubs throughout the summer, including Manchester United.

Paulo Dybala: His Story So Far

The forward departs Turin as a five-time Serie A champion. He is also a four-time Coppa Italia winner and has won the Supercoppa Italiana three times. Dybala made 293 appearances in total for Juventus, scoring an outstanding 115 goals and contributing 48 assists.

He was named in the Serie A Team of the Year four times (three seasons consecutively) and was awarded Serie A Most Valuable Player for his performances throughout the 2019/2020 campaign.

Dybala tasted success more recently whilst representing his national side, Argentina, when they faced Italy in the UEFA Cup of Champions final at Wembley Stadium. He netted the winning goal in the 94th minute to secure his team the trophy.

Roma have already released training pictures of Dybala in action with his new teammates as they continue to prepare for the season ahead; kicking off their campaign on August 14 against Salernitana. This means fans will have to wait until the club’s first home fixture on August 21 to see their new signing in action at the Stadio Olimpico.

The club have confirmed Dybala will wear the No.21 shirt, which he wore throughout his time at Juventus and for his national team.
