‘Not a Lot’ to United’s Links With Griezmann

Romano has added that he doesn’t believe that there is a lot to the rumours claiming that the Red Devils will make a move for the 31-year-old forward. There is still a lack of clarity over what exactly lies in the future for the Frenchman, whose loan spell at Atletico Madrid is set to finish at the end of the season and they are unwilling to sign him on a permanent basis from Barcelona once that happens.

The two La Liga clubs haven’t been able to reach an agreement that suits all parties and that is why any suitors for Griezmann are taking their time in making an approach for him. The 31-year-old is currently totally focused on playing for Diego Simeone’s side and improving his form ahead of the World Cup, which starts in November.

Can United Make a Move for the World Cup Winning Forward?

Despite Romano seemingly dismissing the French forward being linked to a move to Old Trafford, Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo claim that the Red Devils are ready to make a move for him next year. They indicate that United are ready to pounce on the uncertainty over Griezmann’s future – with neither Atletico wanting to buy him on a permanent basis last year nor Barcelona having any plans to fit him back into their squad.

Griezmann has only started one single game for Los Rojiblancos so far this season, despite having scored three goals in his seven other appearances as a substitute. Barcelona are reportedly planning to take legal action against their fellow Spanish club for constantly benching the forward, which is being done so that he can’t play over 50% of all their games this season – doing which will force them to pay over £30 million and sign him next year.

The 31-year-old forward is regarded as one of the best of the last decade. He has scored 231 goals in his domestic career for Atletico Madrid, Barcelona and Real Sociedad. Griezmann won the 2018 FIFA World Cup with France, scoring four goals and registering two assists in the tournament.
