He Will Reunite With His Former Ajax Coach
The Brazilian has joined United for a fee of £86 million. He played under manager Erik ten Hag throughout his time at Ajax before the Dutchman opted for a Premier League switch. The Old Trafford boss was keen to reunite with his former prodigy, which has resulted in a lengthy pursuit for the Brazilian attacker.
Antony Provides a Young and Exciting Addition to the United Squad
In Amsterdam, he won two consecutive Eredivisie titles and the KNVB Cup. Last season Antony hit double figures for goal contributions across all competitions; netting 12 and assisting 10 goals in 33 appearances.
He is a skillful player, recognised for his remarkable ability to take on his man successfully and dribble past opponents. His speed also helps, as he can make attacks devastatingly threatening for defenders once he receives the ball. The 22-year-old was so keen on a move to Manchester, he skipped numerous training sessions to force Ajax’s hand in overseeing his departure.
United began their 2022/2023 campaign where they left off from the previous campaign. Their first two games saw them concede six goals, after a 2-1 loss to Brighton & Hove Albion and a 4-0 loss to Brentford, they finished the second match-week in 20th place – rock bottom of the league table.
