Here We Go: Last Minute Manchester United Target Set for Surprise Move to Italy

Sergino Dest

According to Fabrizio Romano, Sergino Dest of Barcelona is on the verge of joining AC Milan on loan with a non-mandatory buy option of around £17 million. The American international will sign on loan for one-year with the potential of a four-year contract if he impresses.

Full-back on his way to Serie A

The 21-year-old defender was a target for Manchester United according to Gerard Romero, but he now looks set to leave FC Barcelona and travel to Milan to join the Serie A giants on a one-year loan. The Red Devils appear to have been unimpressed with Barcelona’s conduct over the attempt to sign Frenkie De Jong, yet still approached the Spanish side to see if they could get Dest.

The full-back started for the Spanish side 21 times last season. The American defender has subsequently found himself left out of the squad for every match but the recently friendly against Manchester City. Right-back Sergi Roberto signed a new Barcelona contract earlier this year, and new signing Jules Kounde is more than adept at playing right back, pushing the American further down the Camp Nou pecking order.

Moving to Italy gives Dest the opportunity for more first team football, which is of paramount importance with the full back hoping for a place in the U.S.A World Cup squad.

What the Sergino Dest Will Bring to the San Siro

The full-back will seemingly get plenty of minutes in Serie A, with his impressive passing stats and his ability to attack, bringing an extra dimension to Stefano Pioli’s team.

He is comfortable on either side but is effective when playing as a wing-back and having the freedom to get forward. His calmness in possession is another of his best assets, which often sees him involved in many attacking moves.

His ability to get forward also means he often pins the opposition full-back in, creating space in front of them for his teammates to attack.
