Antony

Journalist Gerjan Hamstelaar has revealed that Brazilian attacker Antony is set to leave Ajax, with the simple tweet: “Antony is gone”. Manchester United have been heavily linked with the youngster, and while Hamstelaar’s tweet does not specify where he is going, it is overwhelmingly likely that his move will be to Old Trafford.

A Fantastic Signing for the Red Devils

Should United complete the signing of Antony, it would be a fantastic piece of business for them.

The winger is an incredibly exciting player to watch, providing some true attacking inspiration in the wide areas which will light up the Red Devils’ attack. While their frontline has some big talents in it, with Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford their best wingers at present, neither has been truly remarkable since the beginning of this season. Antony could leapfrog both in Erik ten Hag’s pecking order if he is able to adapt to Premier League football and impress the new boss at Old Trafford.

Antony was another of Erik ten Hag’s transfer wishes after he pushed to bring in Lisandro Martinez, Tyrell Malacia, and Christian Eriksen this summer. Each of these three have been excellent since joining, with Martinez having been a phenomenal addition to the Red Devils’ backline.

The success of these additions demonstrates better than anything that Ten Hag’s judgement is top-notch. If he thinks that Antony will be a good signing at the Theatre of Dreams, then the hierarchy and fans of the club should believe him, and do whatever it takes to bring in the target.
