Fabrizio Romano: Manchester United Still Need to Make Four-Five Signings Before the End of the Transfer Window

Manchester United

Following a less than impressive opening fixture for Manchester United, Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano has encouraged them to continue their search for players. To bolster the squad, four or five singings to round off their window should be a priority.

Crisitano Ronaldo has also been labelled as not Manchester United’s main problem and instead squad depth and personnel within the squad attributed to the team’s abysmal performance.

At home to Brighton & Hove Albion, the Red Devils were at the hands of a 2-1 defeat. An Alexis Mac Allister own goal and Pascal Gross double contributed to the score.

Manchester United’s Summer Transfer Window and Singings to Date

United have strengthened in positions which needed improvement including left-back and centre-back. They have signed 22-year-old Tyrell Malacia from Dutch club Feyenoord who has impressed the new boss in pre-season. Former Brentford and Tottenham Hotspur star Chrisitan Eriksen has also joined the club after being a stand-out performer at the South West London club last campaign.

Further potential incomings could be the difference between European football next season seeing as Manchester United are fighting for those top six domestic places.

There Are Clearly Some Areas That Still Require Further Depth

Despite their somewhat clever business, there are still positions which will need reinforcements to cater for unavailability and poor form. Manchester United and Erik ten Hag, in particular, intend on adding another midfielder and a forward to Manchester United’s ranks.

“We signed [Christian] Eriksen for the midfield department, so we are really happy with that,” Ten Hag said. “And yes, I am really happy also with our performances of our midfield department and offensive department at this moment.

“But I also know about this season – we talk about it in Bangkok and Melbourne – it’s a lot of games, the World Cup, so we need more options where you have a good team, and it’s not only about the team, you need a good squad to get the right results at the end of the season.

“So we have to strengthen the squad even more and we are looking around but we also need the right players.”

United are crying out for a central midfielder who is press resistant and can act as a link between the defence and midfield. They have earmarked Frenkie de Jong as their ideal candidate to fit this role and remain in the race to win his signature.

United have also reportedly not given up on their pursuit of Ajax forward Antony albeit his steep estimation. Erik ten Hag clearly has a vision for his side next year but time will certainly tell. The Dutchman has placed importance on getting the right players who will be the mainstay for the foreseeable future.
