Newcastle United Looking to Snap Up Slovenian Manchester United and Chelsea Target Likened to Erling Haaland

Benjamin Sesko

Newcastle United are looking to make a push to sign highly-rated striker Benjamin Sesko from RB Salzburg, according to Scott Wilson of The Northern Echo.

The report states that the young striker has been on the club’s wanted list all summer. With the Magpies failing to complete a deal for Hugo Ekitike, they have turned their attention to Sesko.

Newcastle United Looking to Sign Benjamin Sesko

A Striker in Demand

Sesko has been linked to moves away from the Austrian outfit all summer. Most notably, Manchester United have shown serious interest in the striker, but feel like the price tag of £55 million was too high. However, with a difficult start to the season after an opening day defeat at home to Brighton & Hove Albion, the Red Devils may pull the trigger for the striker.

Chelsea have also been linked to the forward. After Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner left the club there is a dire need for a clinical forward. Sesko is yet to make a decision on his future despite interest from top clubs.

Newcastle will have to move quickly to get the signature of the youngster due to interest from elsewhere.

What Can the Striker Bring to the Magpies?

Premier League teams are looking at the striker due to his enormous potential. At only 19 years old, Sesko leads the line for RB Salzburg and consistently starts in the Champions League. Despite only scoring five goals and contributing three assists in 24 games, there were still flashes of a top striker at such a young age.

Through two games in the 2022/23 season, the Slovenian scored one goal and gathered one assist. He is off to an excellent start this season and continuously showing why teams are after him.

He has already received comparisons to former Salzburg striker Erling Haaland in his short career.

Newcastle United Will Have to Splash the Cash

Salzburg recognise that they have a great young talent on their hands – this is reflected in the asking price. Eddie Howe will have to pay upwards of £50 million to get his man. In addition, Newcastle will need to convince Sesko that a move to the Premier League is the right one, especially after he seems to want a move to the Bundesliga.

The Northern Echo report claims that the Magpies have only offered around £25 million and this is way off the valuation.

Sesko has an uncertain future with many clubs after him. Newcastle would be a good step in his career, but they may not be willing to pay the price.
