According to a report from El Larguero, FC Barcelona will tell Frenkie de Jong to leave the club as his exit is essential to the Catalan giants being able to register new signings. Manchester United will be buoyed by this news following the update from Fabrizio Romano, which confirmed that “everything is ready with the clubs”, while Chelsea have also been linked with the Dutchman in recent weeks. The proposed transfer of the Dutch midfielder to Old Trafford has been the most talked about transfer saga of this summer and looks set to continue right to the end.

Manchester United’s pursuit of De Jong has been a seemingly never-ending saga, but the Red Devils have received a boost with reports suggesting FC Barcelona will tell the Dutch International he has to leave, despite Joan Laporta’s public statements which suggest that he believes the midfielder will remain at the Camp Nou.

Following on from the signings of Robert LewandowskiRaphinhaJules KoundeFranck Kessie, and Andreas Christensen, it seems the La Liga side have to facilitate the departure of De Jong to register their new signings for the coming season. It appears the player is not entirely convinced about leaving Barcelona, with the reported £17 million owed to the player in wages also being a factor in any potential transfer involving the Dutch international.

Following significant departures from Old Trafford such as that of Paul Pogba, the Red Devils will be keen to bolster in the middle of the park, with Scott McTominay, Fred, Donny van de Beek, and James Garner being the only central midfielders in the first-team squad. 

The signing of De Jong would allow creative players such as Bruno Fernandes and Christian Eriksen to impact the game further forward. Manchester United have been determined yet patient in their pursuit of the “incredible player” and following the latest update, it appears they are one step closer to signing their priority target.
