Chelsea Goalkeeper Is of Interest to Napoli

Chelsea Goalkeeper

Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga is of interest to Serie A side Napoli, according to Gianluca Di Marzio. David Ospina left Napoli, leaving Alex Meret as the main goalkeeper.

Di Marzio mentions that negotiations between Chelsea and Napoli are going well. The deal would be a loan, and the two parties have agreed on a salary payment structure. Chelsea are expected to pay 75% of Kepa’s wages. An agreement regarding bonuses has yet to be reached, however.

A Solid Loan Deal

It’s safe to say that Kepa has not lived up to expectations at Chelsea. Edouard Mendy, of course, has taken over as the club’s main goalkeeper. Mendy has been phenomenal since joining the London side, so this isn’t expected to change. The club also has Marcus Bettinelli as an option off the bench.

Kepa may have the opportunity to revitalize his career at Napoli. The Italian side finished third in the league last season, behind AC Milan and Inter Milan. First off, this means that Kepa will once again be in the Champions League. Playing against top competition will be important.

The Spaniard isn’t guaranteed a starting spot should the move materialize, however. Meret has proven to be a solid option for Napoli in the past. With that being said, Di Marzio mentions that Meret hasn’t accepted a new contract proposal from Napoli, even though there is an offer until 2027 on the table. Meret wants to see if he’d be preferred as a starter over whoever else Napoli brings in, in this case possibly Kepa.
