AC Milan Interest in French Centre-Back Growing

The AC Milan interest in French and Paris Saint-Germain centre-back Abdou Diallo is growing, according to Fabrizio Romano. The player has been on Paolo Maldini’s wishlist since January. Diallo is expected to make a decision on his future soon.

Sven Botman was a previous target for the Rossoneri. The player, however, is heading to Newcastle United as Milan missed out. The Italian giants are now looking at alternatives.

A Solid Addition

Milan’s interest in Botman lasted for quite a while, although they never secured the deal. This goes to show, however, that the Rossoneri are definitely in search of centre-back help.

The current Milan core of centre-backs includes Fikayo Tomori, Pierre Kalulu, Simon Kjaer, and Matteo Gabbia. Tomori is a surefire starter, whereas Kalulu grew to become a borderline starter. His potential looks to be through the roof. Kjaer has always been reliable but is coming off a major injury. Finally, Gabbia remains young and quite inexperienced, especially for a club with Serie A title aspirations.

Diallo is 26-years-old and entering the prime of his career. With that being said, his playing time diminished after moving to PSG. Before Paris, Diallo performed as one of the better defenders in the Bundesliga for Borussia Dortmund and Mainz. At one time he was a very promising prospect but eventually was lost in PSG’s strong defensive depth. Milan also have a strong French connection with Kalulu, Mike Maignan, and Theo Hernandez, so it’s likely that Diallo would acclimate to the club quite quickly.
