Sven Botman – AC Milan Deal In the Works

Sven Botman - AC Milan

The Sven Botman – AC Milan deal is still in the works. The 22-year-old Dutch centre-back is ready to depart Lille and Milan are ready to swoop in for his signature.

Sven Botman – AC Milan Move In Progress

Major Addition to the Project

“AC Milan deal? We are working on that. It’s difficult for me to stay distant from things at the moment, I hear something about this almost every day,” Botman said to ESPN NL in quotes reported by Fabrizio Romano. “Things are in progress and I hope there will be more clarity before the pre-season.”

Milan have been showing interest in the player for quite some time now. He also wouldn’t be the first Lille player to join the club, as Rafael Leao and Mike Maignan are former Lille players who are now Milan stars. Leao is the reigning Serie A Player of the Year, while Maignan won the Serie A Goalkeeper of the Year this season. Former Lille stars tend to succeed with Milan, it seems.

Botman looks like the perfect fit for the Rossoneri. Milan’s star centre-back is Fikayo Tomori, who will surely keep his place. Tomori is 24-years-old, so bringing in Botman gives Milan a youthful defensive duo to build around for years to come. Other options in the squad include Pierre Kalulu and Simon Kjaer. Kalulu played admirably this past season, but he’s also versatile and can play multiple defensive positions. Kjaer, on the other hand, is older and coming off a major injury. Although he played very well when healthy, Kjaer is closer to the end of his career than he is to his prime years. Captain Alessio Romagnoli sees his contract expire this month as well.

Milan are now in the hands of new ownership. Although the club just won Serie A, they’ll be looking to bolster the squad to also become competitive in the Champions League. Botman immediately elevates the defence.
