An Important Piece

Florenzi is not an every-match starter for Milan. In the right-back position, that title belongs to Davide Calabria. With that being said, Florenzi plays a very important role on the squad.

First off, he’s often one of the first names off the bench. Although Florenzi is technically a defender based on position, he’s very versatile. He’s spent time playing in the midfield and on the right side of the attacking trident. His defensive capabilities are strong, but Florenzi is also a terrific crosser and has a dangerous long-range shot which makes him an attacking threat.

Florenzi scored two goals in 24 league appearances for Milan this season. One of the goals came late in the season in a very important victory over Hellas Verona which propelled Milan to the Serie A title. Milan were up by just one goal, but Florenzi scored within a minute of coming on the pitch.

He has a long history of experience playing for Roma for several years in Serie A, but also spent time in Spain with Valencia and France with Paris Saint-Germain. In addition, he’s getting close to 50 appearances for the Italian national team.

Milan remains a very youthful squad. The young players often stole the show this season in terms of top performances, but the important role the veterans played both on and off the pitch cannot be understated. Florenzi even underwent surgery late in the season and returned just in time for the most important stretch. In short, he’s a proven winner and the club values him.
