Alejandro Garnacho Is Rated Highly at Manchester United Who Are Keen to Tie the Youngster Down With a Long-Term Deal

Highly respected journalist Fabrizio Romano broke the news of a potential five-year deal between Manchester United and Garnacho via Twitter. Garnacho is still a prospect but made his first-team debut last season highlighting his potential. The 17-year-old made a £420,000 move from Atletico Madrid back in September 2020 which saw United secure the signing, beating fierce competition from the likes of Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund to his signature. The player already looks worthy of the transfer fee paid at just 17, developing into one of United’s brightest talents.

Former United boss Ralf Rangnick spoke highly of Garnacho, revealing that he sometimes trains with the first team: “He has been training with us for the last two weeks and I know that he is one of the most promising players,” Rangnick also prophesied Garnacho’s potential to play in the first team: “He is still only 17, but a player that hopefully if he keeps his feet on the ground. If he keeps trying to get better every day, then he will not only be sitting on the bench but there is every chance he will be playing for this club.”

With the opportunity to make an impression on new boss Erik ten Hag, Garnacho will be looking to earn a place as a regular in the Red Devils’ squad over the next season, especially with attackers like Edinson Cavani, Jesse Lingard, and Juan Mata all departing when their contracts expire this summer.

Experience for Club and Country

In a highly competitive environment, Garnacho is proving his worth at the youth level with United. Garnacho ended the season well with a total contribution of 14 goals and 6 assists in United’s under-18s last season. He even won silverware in the Youth Cup and scored two of the Red Devils’ three in their victory over Nottingham Forest in the final. Showing his worth in the youth setup brings him ever closer to United’s first team.

As Garnacho blossoms at club level, he is also reaping the rewards with a call-up to the Argentina national team. Garnacho had already played in Spain’s Under-18s but with mixed eligibility switched to Argentina. Garnacho may yet be a part of their World Cup squad in Qatar later this year after having earned a senior call-up in March.

United’s Nick Cox, Head of Academy, spoke on the club’s website about the youngster’s fantastic achievement: “It’s a wonderful moment in a boy’s life to represent their country or to play international football and it’s a brilliant learning opportunity. There’s stuff that comes from international football that the Academy can’t offer”

The 17-year-old is already impressing in Argentina’s under-20 side having scored four goals in as many games.
