Galacticos Present and Future

Luka Modric is in his tenth season with the Spanish giants, however, despite being 36 years old, the Croatian midfielder still has plenty to offer. Since joining from Tottenham Hotspur in 2012, the creative midfielder has won 18 trophies with Real Madrid and it’s looking likely that he will add one more to his cabinet before the season is complete.

It’s no surprise then that Real Madrid wants to keep Modric around, especially as the club transitions to a new era under manager Carlo Ancelotti. Modric’s current deal is set to expire at the end of the 2021/22 season but it is widely expected that the midfield maestro will remain at the Bernabeu.

The club are also looking to complete new deals for their next crop of stars as they are looking to start discussions with forward Vinicius Junior and Centre Back Eder Militao. Vinicius Junior is currently tied down until 2024 with Militao’s current deal expiring in 2025. The Spanish giants however are looking to tie both players down until 2027 and beyond as they build their team up for future success.

Vinicius Junior has emerged as a key man for Los Blancos this season, scoring 14 goals and creating eight assists in La Liga to go along with two goals and six assists in the Champion’s League. Militao has also emerged this season, making 31 appearances in La Liga after making only 29 appearances across the previous two seasons since joining from FC Porto in 2019.

After Ancelotti expressed uncertainty around the future of winger Marco Asensio, it now seems that the Spanish international will be offered a new contract to remain at the Bernabeu once his contract expires in 2023.

Despite the curtains slowly closing on what has been the most successful era in Real Madrid’s already storied history the club looks to still be set up as a force in La Liga and beyond for many years to come.
