Ancelotti Admits Uncertainty Over Future of Real Madrid Playmaker Marco Asensio

Ancelotti Comments

In quotes reported by Fabrizio Romano, Carlo Ancelotti said: “Asensio has great quality. I don’t know what’s gonna happen with his future – although he is talking to the club to discuss the contract.”

Ancelotti also mentions that Asensio is always a help to the team. Discussing a contract renewal may keep him at Madrid, but he’s fallen outside of the team’s pecking order and Serie A leaders AC Milan could offer him a starting position in their side.

Asensio’s Potential Fit at AC Milan

Asensio is currently having a solid season. In 27 La Liga appearances, he holds eight goals to his name. He also has a goal and an assist in six Champions League appearances. Real Madrid are in the clear in the La Liga title race, while also in the Champions League semi-finals. At the moment, however, Asensio is only an option off the bench.

A starting opportunity likely awaits the Spaniard at Milan. The club is already losing an important midfielder in the summer as Franck Kessie joins Barcelona. They’re also dropping points in Serie A title race due to a lack of finishing and creativity, two things that adding Asensio can help address. Finally, there are ongoing talks for a major takeover of AC Milan. This could provide more than enough funds for the Spanish playmaker.

Asensio is 26-years-old. He’s nearing the prime of his career. This fits well with Milan’s current squad of youngsters. Rafael Leao, Sandro Tonali, Pierre Kalulu, and others are all important members, but can still learn from Asensio’s past success with Real Madrid.

Milan and Real Madrid also hold a strong relationship, with former Madrid players such as Theo Hernandez and Brahim Diaz in Milan’s squad.

Should Asensio join, he’ll add instant creativity and perhaps team up with Liverpool striker Divock Origi, who nears a move to Milan.
