Erik Ten Hag Pledges To Give Donny van de Beek A Lifeline At Manchester United

Donny van de Beek will be given a fair chance to revive his career in England following Manchester United’s appointment of fellow Dutchman Erik Ten Hag.

In the hope to reboot his career, he has endured a loan spell at Everton since the January transfer window following a mere 70 minutes in the Premier League in the first half of this Premier League campaign. Manchester United quickly realised that he was not short of admirers following interest from Newcastle United.

Since his arrival, Van de Beek’s time at Old Trafford has been nothing short of uncertain after failing to break into the starting lineup. Donny Van de Beek Is Set to Be Given Second Chance on His Return

Manchester United’s Midfield Dilemma

Though van de Beek fell far behind Scott McTominay, Bruno Fernandes and Fred in the pecking order, his departure left the red side of Manchester lacking depth in the midfield department and the club have been punished on the occasion when rotation has become an issue.

The need for midfield reinforcements at Manchester has been an ongoing glaring issue and fans believe this upcoming transfer window will be the time to set these problems straight, especially with van de Beek’s reintroduction.

French midfielder Paul Pogba is set to depart ways with Manchester United as interest looms from some of Europe’s top clubs. The elegant Bruno Fernandes has struggled to sustain his numbers and performances from previous campaigns which has led to a reduction in chance creation for the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Jadon Sancho.

The Part That Donny van de Beek Will Play

On his return, the extent of his involvement remains unknown, but the appointment of Erik Ten Hag can only be good news. The combination of Erik ten Hag and Donny van de Beek has proved to be lethal on the European stage as the Holland midfielder played a pivotal role alongside Frenkie de Jong in central midfield in their successful stint in the 2018/19 Champions League.

His natural position is in the number 10 spot as this is where he shone under the watchful eye of Ten Hag – however, one obvious problem is that this is currently occupied by United’s most influential player. Alternatively, he has also shown his capability of playing in United’s typical midfield pivot with his sound technical and passing ability – a position he was deployed mostly under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. It is possible that Donny van de Beek could be utilised as a rotational option with Bruno Fernandes when needed.

The former Ajax star has undeniable talent and has extremely tidy qualities to his game but the question over where he fits into the structure but under Erik ten Hag, this will hopefully change to see Donny van de Beek flourish.
