Report: Barcelona Striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang Staying

Barcelona Striker Aubameyang

Barcelona is looking to continue forward with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang at the striking position, according to Fabrizio Romano. He arrived to the club in January and their fortunes have gone up ever since.

“Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang will be Barcelona’s number 9 next season,” said Barcelona director Mateu Alemany. “We are more than happy with Auba and his performances.”

The club has been much improved since their January transfer window and appointing Xavi as their manager. They’re looking to build onto this success by retaining important players and by adding more talent as well. With this being said, Barcelona continues to monitor further striking options.

Barcelona Moving Forward With Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

Quick Success

It’s safe to say that Aubameyang has been thriving ever since arriving in Spain. In nine La Liga appearances, the striker already has eight goals and an assist to his name. This is a lot better than how he started with Arsenal this season, scoring four times and providing one assist in 14 Premier League matches.

Aubameyang has also produced in the Conference League. He holds two goals to his name in five appearances.

The La Liga numbers really stand out. Aubameyang is averaging close to a goal per match, and this has vaulted Barcelona back into the standings. It’s unlikely that they overtake first place from Real Madrid, but the club is now back up to second place. Aubameyang’s goal-scoring prowess was much needed after the departure of Lionel Messi which left a massive hole in Barcelona’s attack. Ansu Fati’s injuries did the club no favors either, although he remains an important prospect.

Aubameyang is 32-years-old. He’s nearing the end of his prime, but for now that is not a major concern as he continues to produce. Barcelona has plenty of young and promising players on the squad, especially in the attack, so Aubameyang can serve as an important player and a mentor.
