Wolverhampton Wanderers Trigger Permanent Signing of Hwang Hee-chan

Wolverhampton Wanderers

Wolverhampton Wanderers have triggered their option to buy Hwang Hee-chan from RB Leipzig in the middle of a successful loan stint, as reported by The Athletic.

Hwang Hee-chan Joins Wolverhampton Wanderers Permanently as They Activate Their Option to Buy

The Transfer From RB Leipzig Will Keep the Forward at the Midlands Club for the Foreseeable Future.

Hwang Hee-Chan will continue his Premier League dream with Wolves as the loan deal turns into a permanent stay. There is no better time for the news to break as Hwang celebrates his 26th birthday. Hee-Chan has been impressing everyone at Molineux since arriving from Germany in late August by scoring four goals in 14 games. His goal return may not be drastically high but his strikes were influential in winning points over Watford and Newcastle United. And despite starting just 11 times for Wolves, the South Korea international is their joint top-scorer.

The original loan deal with Leipzig contained an option to buy, and according to The Athletic, this figure sits at £11.9 million. Triggering the option to buy means that Wolves will hash out contract details ready for summer when the transfer will officially take place, having no impact on their January transfer budget. Hwang is currently recovering from a hamstring injury and will likely be out until next month.

Wolves Keen on Keeping Hee-Chan

Although Hee-chan is currently injured, he was a staple in the line-up prior to this. The Athletic also reports Wolves head coach Bruno Lage has been delighted with Hwang’s performances and selected him regularly prior to his injury in December. Following this praise, the hunt for Hee-Chan’s transfer started back in November with Lage saying: “I don’t know exactly what the agreement is, but Hwang is happy here and the club is happy with him. He brings the dynamic I want from my team.”

In a video recently published on Wolves’ social media channels, Hee-chan gave an update on his injury: ‘After the injury, I am recovering well and have started jogging and training. I will try my best to show my best performance to the fans. Thank you for your support.’

Until Hee-chan recovers from his injury fellow forward Daniel Podence is making the most of the extra game-time. Podence is in excellent form adding a dynamic flair to Wolves. Hee-Chan faces a battle to regain his place in the starting line-up. Alongside this signing, Adama Traore’s future is all but certain. The pacy-forward is once again the subject to transfer rumours, with Tottenham Hotspur watching him keenly.
