Manchester United Midfielder Returns to City Ground

James Garner is to return to Nottingham Forest until the end of the season after completing a loan switch to the City Ground.

The Manchester United midfielder returns to the club with whom he spent the second half of last season in order to continue his development away from Old Trafford.

Garner, who is expected to pen a new contract with the Red Devils as part of his loan move to Forest, made 20 appearances with Forest and scored four goals while on Trentside.

The 20-year-old has spent pre-season as part of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s first-team plans but has been sent to the City Ground on a temporary basis.

Earlier in the week, the United boss said: “I would definitely think Jimmy will go on loan, that’s more or less done.

“He’s done really well and really impressed me. For his career, another season or another six months playing regularly will help him.”

Garner arrives at a Nottingham Forest side which has failed to pick up any points so far this season.

The Reds have lost all four of the Championship matches so far – against Coventry City, Bournemouth, Blackburn Rovers and Stoke City – and pressure is mounting on boss Chris Hughton.

The Forest boss has struggled to get his side going in the league with injuries and a lack of squad depth causing him selection issues.

Hughton has made just four signings so far this summer with Garner following Philip Zinckernagel (loan, Watford), Jordi Osei-Tutu (loan, Arsenal) and Ethan Horvath (permanent, Club Brugges) to the City Ground.
