Roma Still in Talks Over Tammy Abraham; Arsenal Join the Race

Tammy Abraham

AS Roma remain in talks with Tammy Abraham over the possibility of bringing the Chelsea striker to the Serie A. According to Fabrizio Romano, José Mourinho’s side view the 23-year-old as an ideal replacement for Edin Dzeko, who has left the club to join Inter Milan.

Roma’s Sporting Director, Tiago Pinto, is currently in London as he attempts to complete a deal for Abraham, who is in the Chelsea squad for their first Premier League game of the season against Crystal Palace.

Alternatively, Abraham may decide his future remains in England even if it is not with Chelsea. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has also confirmed that Arsenal are trying to lure the striker to the Emirates Stadium.

Roma Desperate to Seal Tammy Abraham Transfer

Thomas Tuchel Said he ‘Did Not Trust’ The Striker Last Season

Discussing Abraham’s future with the club, Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel has shouldered the blame for the striker’s lack of game time under his management at Stamford Bridge.

Abraham made only seven appearances for the Blues since Tuchel’s arrival in January, but still finished as Chelsea’s joint-top goalscorer last season with 12 goals in all competitions.

Adressing Abraham’s situation at the club, Tuchel said: “He was clearly not happy with the last half a year and maybe he has reason also not to be happy and maybe it was also my fault not to push him, not to trust him on the same level I maybe trusted other players.

“I can absolutely understand that he wants more minutes. So the decision will be ‘how do we plan, what are Tammy’s plans, does he fight his way back into the team from the position where he ended last season or does he want to change club to have the chance of being a regular starter?”

If he does decide to leave Chelsea, Abraham is not short of potential suitors. Alongside concerted interest from Roma, Premier League rivals Arsenal remain keen to sign the striker, and have made an approach for his signature.

Romelu Lukaku Deal Causing Domino Effect

The return of Romelu Lukaku to Stamford Bridge looks to have caused a domino effect in the transfer window, as clubs in Europe scramble to ensure they have goalscorers in their sides for the new season.

Inter Milan have moved swiftly to bring in former Manchester City striker Edin Dzeko as Lukaku’s replacement at the San Siro, leaving Roma on the lookout for a new number nine.

New Roma manager José Mourinho knows Lukaku’s signing is likely to leave Abraham largely surplus to requirements at Chelsea, and is looking to bring him to Rome – as a replacement for Dzeko – in order to close a revolving door-like scenario involving strikers switching clubs.
