Newcastle United have announced the signing of Joe Willock from Arsenal on a permanent deal.

Joe Willock Agrees to Join Newcastle United on Permanent Basis

Joe Willock Was Outstanding during Newcastle United Loan Spell

The player had an outstanding loan spell with the Toon Army during the 2020/21 campaign, making quite an impression and prompting boss Steve Bruce to not only want to bring him back but bring him back on a permanent contract to boot.

After holding discussions and agreeing a fee (believed to be worth around £22 million) the deal has now been completed and Willock can continue to push on and continue the fine work he did at St James’ Park last season.

The Englishman struggled to feature too heavily for former side Arsenal, as he managed only nine appearances for the Gunners before his loan spell out to Newcastle. He did rack up several appearances over the course of his time there but ultimately only got the chance to start 12 games in total.

Struggled for Gametime at Arsenal

With the player finding first-team regularity hard to come by, he has now decided the best port of call would be to leave Arsenal and will now try and establish himself in the first-team picture with Steve Bruce’s side.

The Gunners’ loss is certainly Newcastle’s gain. Willock stormed onto the scene and bagged eight goals in just 10.9 lots of 90 minutes. It was an incredible record that not only proved he was capable of producing in the Premier League but actually made him one of Newcastle’s top goalscorers in 2020/21 despite only joining them midway through the campaign.

At 21 years of age, he has plenty of potential to get even better than he is now and with one of the best non-penalty xG rates in Europe (averaging 0.26 per 90) he certainly knows how to finish and if he can continue to bag on a regular basis for Newcastle, then they could potentially start looking up the table this season rather than down.
