Michy Batshuayi has condemned the faith shown in him by Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson, indicating that Roberto Martinez shows him trust he does not receive at his club.

At Selhurst Park on loan from Chelsea, Batshuayi has claimed he receives trust from Belgium manager Martinez that Hodgson does not communicate to him.

The 27-year-old has failed to earn a consistent run in Palace’s side this season, having not completed 90 minutes for his club this season.

Batshuayi recently scored and assisted for Belgium in the 8-0 victory for The Red Devils against Belarus. He spoke about the difference between playing for his club and country, and said: “I get a breath of renewed energy when I come into the national team because it’s very hard for me at my club.

“The club and the national team are different. The coach, the team members, and the system are different from that at Palace. With the Red Devils, I feel a lot of trust from the coach; trust that I do not get there (at Palace). With (Roberto) Martinez, we talk to each other a lot, even when I’m back at my club. I give 200% not to disappoint him.”

Where Will He Go From Here?

Batshuayi has not been able to replicate the goalscoring ability he has shown for Belgium (with 22 goals in 33 caps) for his club this season, with just one goal so far this campaign.

The forward’s form and recent comments would suggest he is unlikely to remain at Crystal Palace beyond this summer and could be part of a clear-out at the London club.

Since signing from Marseille in 2016 for £33 million, the Belgian has failed to establish a place in the side for The Blues. The one-year-contract he signed just before returning to Palace on loan would suggest Chelsea are not prepared to lose the striker for free.

His performances this season will not force him into Thomas Tuchel’s plans, however, Batshuayi will need to consider a move that can help him rebuild his career and reputation, after failing to deliver on the hype around him when he initially headed to the Premier League

A side with similar standing in the Premier League to Crystal Palace could be a possible option, but the striker has shown he is willing to move country for the right opportunity in the past. Regardless of where it is, Batshuayi needs to be certain he will be shown the “trust” he wants at his next club.
