Fantasy Premier League: Gameweek 17 Preview

Fantasy Premier League: Gameweek 17

Fantasy Premier League gameweek 17 is almost upon us with a Friday deadline. The pandemic hit the premier league and the FPL managers hard on the final gameweek of 2020 with a couple of matches getting postponed. Let’s hope for better fortunes as we welcome 2021!

Quick Tips

All the best-laid plans have probably gone awry in the last few days. In addition to the two postponed matches, Charlie Taylor also went off injured early on and many other players were rested. The importance of a strong bench was well and truly highlighted.

One has to wonder about the matches involving Fulham and Manchester City this gameweek as well. So, it is absolutely crucial to wait till the very last hour before the deadline to make your moves. Everton and Tottenham Hotspur players might be benefitted from the rest though.

Goalkeepers

Emiliano Martínez has a tough match this week but could get points from making saves.

Nick Pope kept a clean sheet last gameweek and has another good chance this week. However, will the match go ahead against Fulham?

Vicente Guaita could be a good pick against rock bottom Sheffield United.

Defenders

Burnley defenders should do well against Fulham if the match goes ahead. Ben Mee got the goal last gameweek. Matthew Lowton is also a decent option.

Crystal Palace defenders have the best possible chance to keep a clean sheet this week. They have only kept one this season, which was in gameweek one. It will be interesting to see who starts at the back for the Eagles. Tyrick Mitchell played well against Leicester City. Will he get another start?

Everton have done well defensively with three clean sheets in the last four matches. They have a decent chance of keeping another this gameweek as well against West Ham United. Mason Holgate could be a solid option at a cheap price.

Arsenal have a few nice-looking fixtures coming up and their defenders are reasonably priced as well. Kieran Tierney and Rob Holding are worth consideration.

Midfielders

Bruno Fernandes has a tricky fixture but could do well. He has been brilliant recently and set up Marcus Rashford for the winner in midweek. Despite Aston Villa‘s form and league position, one should consider the midfielder as a captaincy option.

Mohamed Salah and  Sadio Mané will have to deliver the goods this week. It is a tough trip to Southampton for Liverpool who will look to bounce back after dropping points in consecutive weeks now. Mane will be against his former side. He doesn’t have a great record in this fixture, however,  with just one goal in six appearances.

Tottenham Hotspur vs Leeds United could be a really exciting match. Son Heung-min could really profit in this match. Manchester United absolutely thrashed Leeds recently. Spurs could look to replicate that. On the other hand, Raphinha and Jack Harrison could do well also.

Bukayo Saka is in great form and has a nice run of fixtures ahead of him. He could be a nice differential and fresh option. Gabriel Martinelli is also a good shout following recent form.

Wilfried Zaha scored his 8th goal of the season last week and has a great home fixture against  Sheffield United this week. Palace will look to him to provide the goals once more this time around.

Pedro Neto and Harvey Barnes are also considerable options after recent form.

Strikers

Harry Kane will be fired up to break the run of three matches without a goal and get back to scoring goals this week. It might be the perfect opportunity for Spurs to score some goals. Kane is also well-rested after the postponement of the midweek game. Patrick Bamford should get some chances to score, too, in a Leeds side so full of attacking impetus.

The return of Richarlison should help Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Everton. Calvert-Lewin is without a goal in four matches. This might be a good opportunity for him to break that run.

Leicester City should recall Jamie Vardy to the starting lineup against Newcastle United. It will be interesting to see how the magpies perform after a battling defensive display against Liverpool. If there is any tiredness in their defenders, Vardy will be ready to pounce.

Anthony Martial could start after missing out in midweek. He has been misfiring this season though with just one goal to his name and will be looking to end a disappointing run up top.
