José Mourinho Had Been Vocal in New Striker Hunt

Spurs boss Mourinho repeatedly stated his belief that his club would sign a new striker throughout this extended summer transfer window. Now, the Portuguese manager has got his wish.

Vinicius, who only joined Benfica one year ago from Italian club Napoli, arrives to provide high-class back-up to England marksman Harry Kane.

The 25-year-old’s 24-goal haul last season saw him linked with a host of top clubs around Europe, but Spurs chairman Daniel Levy has acted quickly to beat the competition since opening negotiations with Benfica in early October.

Vinicius may need some time to settle into his new surroundings, having made only two appearances for the Portuguese side this season. Tottenham’s frantic start to the new campaign has already seen them recover positively to an opening-day Premier League defeat by Everton, while Mourinho’s men have also progressed in the Europa League and Carabao Cup competitions.

Mourinho is thought to be strongly approving of Vinicius’s arrival at the club and would be open to the loan move becoming permanent next summer if all goes well for his newest singing.
